This listing is for one jar of Artemisia & Fly Agaric Honey Incense Powder, from The heART of Ritual.

The medicinal, magical, and energetic virtues of Mugwort are well known world wide, as is the plant lore. Each person has their own unique and intimate relationship with their teachers, irrelevant of what species they are or kingdom they belong to, and in accordance with their personal prayer practice/traditions/beliefs.

This incense blend is made with five different species of Artemisia that grow both here in the mountains and in the garden I tend to. I had a little giggle to myself upon realizing it was a pentagram number of Mugworts that this blend works with. Artemisia is one of the main women's herbs and is a plant of the moon, therefore it hard to speak of her without mentioning virtues of shapeshifting, dreamtime travelling, astral travel, remote viewing, and clairvoyance. However, what I would like to focus on here with this pentagram of Artemisia and Fly Agaric, is the invoking of all five elements in supporting and facilitating actualization of our own mythic selves, here and now. Or in other words, fully claiming and embodying our inner magic. The enchantress/enchanter within. I consciously paired Artemisia with Fly Agaric so as to include its virtues that support spiritual growth, truth seeing, and higher levels of consciousness. Hence the reason I lovingly refer to this blend as 'Journey', because it supports the alchemical journey within, and throughout. I decided to include honey as an ingredient here to invoke protection while traveling and to ensure safe sanctuary spaces for rest in between.

ABOUT HONEY INCENSE

Honey has been used in rituals for thousands of years. It was often used as an offering to the Greek gods, particularly the goddess of beauty and love, Aphrodite. In addition, it is thought to be one of the five elixirs of immortality in ancient Hindu texts.

The heady, sweet aroma of honey is instantly recognizable, and immediately soothing, bringing images of summer days and warm evenings. It was often used in spellbinding due to its connection to the sticky consistency of honey, lending itself well to romance spells, strengthening the bond between two people. Found all over the world, its accessibility and beautiful scent mean it is unsurprising that it sees such popularity.

This raw honey is from a wonderful native bee husband (and beekeeping teacher) that I met in West Cork, who loves and cares for 25 hives in and around the mountains of Bantry Bay. I was lucky enough to receive an invitation to visit his home where he showed me his 'honey room', the space in which he gathers the combs and extracts the honey by hand. I was tickled by the fact that he leaves a window open in the room at all times for the bees to fly in and out as they please, something that I found deeply touching. I love this very natural method of working harmoniously with the bees and how he extracts the honey from the comb, he even removes a small part of the comb from each frame and returns the rest to the hive for the bees to build upon again. His lifes work with bees is so intimate and respectful and the bees reciprocate! It was a blessing to meet him and to receive this heavenly blackberry blossom raw honey.

Each comes to you in a beautiful recycled apothecary glass bottle (50ml), encrusted with a highly textured natural structural paste that I created from hand gathered wild clays, fine crystal powders, and minerals. Each is adorned with a mini posey of wild lunar botanicals, and a hand written plant fiber paper label embossed with our Celtic Wheel of the Year mandala art. These are lovingly held in place with a beautiful plant fiber cordage made from mugwort and rose. Each bottle is ritually sealed with local beeswax.

To use:

Place a pea sized amount on ignited charcoal in a fireproof dish. Do not leave burning incense unattended.

Our wildcrafted ritual fumigation blends are deliciously fragrant and created with the very best of biodynamic, sustainably hand gathered, wild native herbs, resins, fungus, berries, blossoms and fine crystal powders from the high Alps around our nest.

Themes & Focus for this Collection

This seasonal shop opening coincides with the Celtic Festival of Samhain and takes place within the liminal space between the last new moon of the Celtic year in October, astronomical Samhain, and the first new moon of the Celtic New Year in November. It is during this time that the death of the old (year) and the birth of the new (year) occurs. With this we enter the dreamtime cycle of moons; a time honouring the birth that takes place during and after the darkest times. It is a potent time of observing blood, bones, ancestors, (re)connection, introspection, and 'getting to know the lay of the land'...within. Many refer to this time as a 'thinning of the veils', however those of us whose ears are finely tuned, we know that the 'veil' is always thin.
